Your role
Know what's happening each week, what she's going through, and what your job actually is. Walk into every appointment prepared. Handle the moments that count without reaching for Google. Keep going through the first year, not just to the delivery room.
The dads who worry less aren't the ones who got lucky. They're the ones who knew what to expect.
What's inside

Safety lookup
Pregnancy comes with a long list of things that are probably fine and occasionally not. Standing in the grocery aisle at 8pm wondering about sushi is not the time to scroll through forums. Paternal gives you a fast, clear answer — food, medications, activities.
No opinion, no guesswork. Just the answer, so you can move on.
General guidance, not medical advice. Check with your provider for the final call.
Contraction timer · Kick counter
Tap once to start. Tap again to stop. The 5-1-1 guideline is always on screen so you don't have to remember it under pressure. You will open this app once when it matters, and it will do exactly what you need.
The kick counter works the same way. Ten movements in under two hours is what you're after. Paternal times it and tells you what to do if the numbers look off.

Appointment calendar
The prenatal calendar shows every visit — what it involves, what to expect, and what questions are worth asking before you walk in. No more asking which scan this is in the parking lot.
Add your own appointments, track notes from each one, and see the full arc from the first trimester to the delivery room and beyond.
First year
Most apps end when the baby arrives. That's exactly when things get hard. Paternal keeps going — feeding log, newborn safety reference, partner check-ins, and first-year library content.
The moment it gets real is when you need the app most.

How it works
That's the only number Paternal needs. Everything adjusts to where you are — the weekly feed, the timeline, the tools.
Every week: what's developing, what to expect, and what your actual job is right now.
Safety lookup, contraction timer, kick counter, appointment calendar — everything is one tap away when it matters, including at 2am.
Feeding log, newborn safety, partner check-ins, first-year content. The app keeps going through the part that's actually the hardest.
Where we're at
Currently in the hands of other first-time dads. We don't have a wall of five-star reviews yet — we're early, and we're not going to fabricate them.
What we have is an app that got built because the alternatives weren't built for us. It's free to download. Use it through a week and see if it's worth keeping.
Reviews incoming.
FAQ
Is the safety lookup medically reviewed?
Yes. The data is sourced from leading medical references including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and similar authoritative sources. It's the same guidance your provider would give you — not a replacement for them, but a fast way to get to a reliable answer without a phone call.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. We're focused on iOS right now — building one platform well before stretching to two. Android is on the roadmap, but there's no timeline to share yet.
What's the difference between free and Paternal+?
The core tools — contraction timer, kick counter, safety lookup, weekly updates, appointment calendar, birth plan, feeding log, go-bag — are free and stay free. Paternal+ adds the full library, partner check-ins, insights from your logs, baby names, extra size comparison packs, growth tracking, and journal prompts.
Does Paternal work even if my partner is using a different app?
Yes. Paternal tracks independently. It doesn't connect to anything else.
Does the app continue after the baby is born?
Yes. There's a newborn safety reference, feeding log, partner check-ins, and library content covering the first year. You don't need a different app when things get hard.
